FREQUENTLY ASKED SIDING INSTALLATION QUESTIONS
What is the average lifespan of siding?
Great question! The lifespan of your siding depends on a few factors, like the material you choose and how well you maintain it. With proper installation and minimal maintenance, premium vinyl options can last 30-40 years or more. Wood siding, on the other hand, typically lasts between 20-40 years (with regular painting or staining every 3-7 years.) Aluminum siding generally falls in the middle, lasting around 25-40 years with periodic repainting every 10-15 years.
For the longest-lasting, lowest-maintenance option, we recommend that homeowners install vinyl siding.
Can you replace just a section of siding?
In most cases, yes! If you have a small section of siding that’s been damaged by something like a storm, heat, mildew, or impact, we can usually replace just that area. This is often easier to do with materials like vinyl or aluminum, but it’s important to keep in mind that replacing a small section in the middle of a wall can be a bit trickier and may involve removing some of the surrounding siding.
It’s also worth noting that if your siding is older, the new section may not match perfectly with the rest of the wall. In those situations, you might want to consider replacing the whole wall to get a seamless, cohesive look.
Can you install siding yourself?
We get it—tackling home projects yourself can be tempting, especially if you’re handy. But when it comes to siding installation, we usually recommend leaving it to the professionals. Here’s why: installing siding is a big job that requires specialized tools and a team of experienced installers who know exactly what they’re doing. Even if you’re pretty confident in your DIY skills, siding installation is probably not the best project to learn on the fly. Plus, if the installation isn’t done properly, it can leave your home vulnerable to things like water damage, air leaks, and other issues that can be costly to fix down the line.
When is the best time of year to install siding?
We recommend scheduling your siding installation during the milder months of fall (September-November) or spring (March-May). Fall is often considered the “best” time to install siding because your landscaping is dormant, which reduces the risk of damage to plants and shrubs during the project.
If you schedule your installation for spring, we’ll take extra precautions to protect your emerging vegetation. Summer installations can be more challenging due to intense heat and humidity, which can cause expansion and contraction issues with certain siding materials. Winter installations are also possible, but frigid temperatures and snow/ice can make the process more difficult.
Ultimately, the best time for your siding installation will depend on your location, climate, and schedule—contact Aerotech to discuss your specific needs and get personalized advice from our expert team.
